A group of monkeys has been wreaking havoc on Al-Ajer Intermediate and Secondary School for Girls in Tandaha in eastern Khamis Mushayt. The monkey scare has forced panicky students and teachers to stay away from the school altogether. The school's principal has sought the help of municipal authorities to restore order after piles of monkey waste were found in the school's courtyard a day after the initial attack on Saturday. Saeed Muhammad Al-Wakid, Director of Girls' Education in Khamis Mushayt, acknowledged that there were several reports of monkeys attacking the school buildings. Al-Wakid said he had brought the incidents to the notice of the governorate and municipal authorities and also held a meeting with the representatives of the Commission of Wildlife Conservation. Saeed Bin Hader Shuail, Director of Services at the Municipality, said a two-pronged strategy has been adopted with help from the wildlife conservation officials: To take preventive measures in schools and to hunt and sterilize male monkeys.
