RIYADH — The Ministry of Labor will issue licenses for new recruitment offices exclusively for domestic workers.
Tayseer Al-Mofrej, spokesman of the ministry, said amendments have been made in a number of articles of the bylaw adopted by the ministry four years ago for recruitment companies and regulations for recruitment of workers. He said the terms and conditions for the new offices will be announced early next week, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
Al-Mofrej said the ministry aims at providing more options for citizens for hiring domestic help. “The move will further strengthen the competitiveness in the market for domestic workers in addition to meeting the growing requirements for domestic workers, especially housemaids,” he said, noting that the measure is part of the solutions being pursued by the ministry to tackle the challenges facing the local market for domestic workers.
Al-Mofrej said the ministry has instructed all recruitment offices across the Kingdom to accept requests for visas for hiring domestic workers from Bangladesh and other countries. The ministry started receiving applications to issue visas for Bangladeshi domestic workers from April 20.
Al-Mofrej said Saudis who want to hire housemaids could choose any of the 337 licensed recruitment firms, which will facilitate the hiring process with their counterparts in Bangladesh. The cost, visa validity and other details have been published on the ministry's portal Musaned.
Al-Mofrej asked all the beneficiaries to inform the ministry in case of any violations through email to [email protected] or by calling customer service center number 19911 or by directly approaching the ministry's branch offices across the country.
