RIYADH — The Ministry of Health recorded five confirmed cases of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus infections last week in different parts of the country, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
A source from the ministry said the cases were in Riyadh, Hofuf, Taif, Najran and Baqeeq. He added that the ministry tested 1,246 samples of the disease in the ministry's laboratories during the past week.
“We will continue our coordination and close cooperation with all the concerned ministries, the international organizations including the World Health Organization (WHO) and international experts to contain any possible spread of the disease,” the source said.
He said the Ministry of Health is cooperating with the Ministry of Agriculture in its campaign to combat the coronavirus. “People who are in direct contact with the camels, including owners and shepherds, are in grave danger of contracting or transmitting the disease.
“The Ministry of Agriculture will make sure its workers are fully aware of how to deal with animals.”
