MAKKAH — The use of sectarianism to achieve mundane political ambitions is a great danger threatening the Ummah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman said here on Sunday. In a speech delivered on his behalf by Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, Emir of Makkah region and adviser to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, during the inauguration ceremony for the 22nd session of the Islamic Fiqh Academy, the King said sectarianism is an aggression against others as Yemen has witnessed it recently. “To confront this danger after exhausting all peaceful means in Yemen and to stop aggression against the legitimacy of the state, the Kingdom launched the Operation Decisive Storm in solidarity with coalition partners to rescue Yemen and its people from a group in which sectarianism was deep rooted,” the King said. “They harbored enmity against the legitimate government of their country and wreaked havoc with its security and stability. They threatened their neighboring countries, foremost of which was the Kingdom. They had the support of foreign parties which strived to achieve their nefarious design of regional hegemony by sowing the seeds of sedition.” King Salman said the support of internal Yemeni parties, which reneged on all agreements they had signed, emboldened the foreign parties. The Saudi-led Operation Decisive Storm which won global support was launched only to support Yemen and foil the attempts to convert it into a base for launching a regional conspiracy aimed at undermining the security and stability of regional countries, the King said. But the evil attempts in Yemen will not succeed, King Salman asserted.
