LAMAR Investment and Real Estate Development Co., a Saudi Arabia based leading real estate developer and Drake & Scull International PJSC (DSI), a regional market leader in the integrated design, engineering and construction disciplines of general contracting, engineering (mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP), water and power, rail and oil and gas, have announced significant progress on the upcoming prestigious SR1.725 billion Lamar Towers development in Jeddah.
The two companies have recently awarded the external façade scope of works to Technical Glass and Aluminium Company, a leading provider of aluminum, glass, steel, GRC, marble, granite, and precast solutions for building external envelopes, for a total value of SR200 million to mark the next phase in the construction of the remarkable twin structures.
Lamar Investment and Real Estate Development Company and Drake & Scull International are co-developers of the Lamar towers, and Drake & Scull Construction KSA is undertaking the general contracting responsibilities on the project.
The Lamar Towers project occupies a 34,800 square meter plot with a total built up area of 409,770 square meter on Jeddah Corniche, and comprises two-high rise towers sitting atop a 13-floor curved podium.
Tower T1 and T2 measure 322 meters and 293 meters in height and comprise 57 and 49 storeys respectively. Upon completion, the mixed use commercial and residential towers will offer a unique lifestyle at the highest level of living standards, a remarkable stylish housing and a gateway for modern and contemporary businesses in the Kingdom for international companies.
Progress on the project has been on schedule and DSI has been able to complete concrete works on nearly 65 floors on both towers combined, as well finish construction works on five levels of shared parking, and twelve levels of the shared podium structure.
Work on the façade is scheduled to start in the second half of 2015 with the landscaping works set to begin in early 2016.
To date, DSC has utilized over 24,000m3 of concrete and 6500 tons of steel on site. The Technical Glass and Aluminium Company's scope of work includes the design and supply of glass and aluminum and all the façade works of the prestigious towers including the unitized curtain walls, precast, stone panel and the cladding panel.
Bakr R. Nazer, CEO and Managing Director of Lamar Investment & Real Estate Development Company, said: “We are extremely pleased to have reached a significant milestone in the progress of the Lamar Towers.
The Lamar Towers construction is progressing and the project is rapidly realizing the architectural vision that inspired and motivated us to embark on this iconic venture.
Our association with Drake & Scull International has been a pioneering success and the fusion of the two companies' synergies has delivered significant results on this remarkable project.
Reaching the stage of awarding the curtain wall construction is a tremendous achievement for both companies and marks the transition into the next exciting phase of the march towards the completion of construction activities on the two towers.”
He further said “we are confident that the Technical Glass and Aluminium Company possesses the necessary skills, knowledge and manpower to deliver outstanding quality of work and finish that a project of this complex scale demands.
Their projects' portfolio and well-earned industry reputation will complement Drake & Scull Construction KSA's acclaimed project management mechanisms and will help the project to evolve to the completion phase on schedule.”
The Lamar Towers will offer an unmatched quality of finesse and lifestyle and will be an extraordinary achievement in Jeddah's skyline, befitting the status of one of the MENA region's most rapidly developing urban landscapes.”
Khaldoun Tabari, CEO and Vice-Chairman of Drake & Scull International PJSC, said: “The creation of the curtain wall is a major stage in the construction lifecycle of any project.
As a co-developer and the general contractor on this project, the Lamar Towers Project is a vital showcase of our technical construction and engineering prowess.
The project has inspired us with some unique remarkable challenges which have been met by our skilled teams and personnel with equally innovative solutions to ensure the progress on the towers has remained on track.
Our collaboration with the Lamar Investment and Real Estate Development Company has been fruitful and productive and has been a major reason for the projects' success.”
He added “Technical Glass and Aluminium Company have proven their credentials in the regional market through their stellar work on some notable projects and enjoy a reputation of delivering quality, professional external structure solutions.
With Drake & Scull Construction KSA and Technical Glass and Aluminium Company combining their respective strengths and leveraging their considerable skills and experience, we remain confident that we will achieve the lofty ambitions and standards that are expected of a project of this magnitude and the Lamar Towers will prove to be a worthy addition to the dynamic and prosperous city of Jeddah.”
