JEDDAH — Effat University recently celebrated the graduation of 184 bachelor's degree students at its 25th graduation ceremony. The event was held under the patronage of Princess Lulwa Al-Faisal to celebrate the 25th and 26th batch of various bachelor's graduates and the fourth batch of Islamic finance master's students. The president of the university Haifa Jamal Al-Lail opened the ceremony with a speech on the achievements of the institute during the past academic year, including the new College of Design and Architecture that is to be opened soon. The keynote speaker of the event, Lubnah Al-Olayan, a member of Effat's honorary advisory board and CEO of Olayan Financing Company, spoke about the role of Saudi women as leaders in their society. The keynote speaker was followed by alumni Asmaa Al-Andijani, a graduate of the College of Electrical and Computer Engineering. She spoke about the legacy of Queen Effat Al-Thunayyan and her achievements. She said: “I am proud to be among the graduates of this university and the graduates of the College of Electrical and Computer Engineering because we struggle the most after graduation. “We struggle as women to find jobs and to continue in our field, but all of my colleagues and I have overcome every obstacle in our way.” The international speaker of the event was noted professor Jane McAuliffe, former president of Bryn Mawr College and a world-renowned scholar of Islam, the Holy Qur'an and Muslim-Christian relations. The entertainment was a sand art performance by talented French artist David Miryam.
