Khaled Marghalani, Ministry of Health spokesman, said Dr. Hamad Al-Mane', Health Minister, has issued directives to Dr. Khaled Al-Sumairi, General Supervisor of King Abdullah Medical City, to make all preparations to start the first phase of constructing the hospital. Marghalani noted the first phase of the medical city has been completed on a 750,000 km area. The specialist hospital will cost SR334 million and another pediatric hospital will be constructed in the city at a cost of SR200 million. “The ministry is planning to make the Medical City in Makkah one of the largest such cities in the world, with the best available facilities,” explained Marghalani. He expected the medical city's specialist hospital to begin receiving patients by the second half of next year when it will operate partially – 100 beds only – as a first phase. Advanced medical services will be introduced in the hospital, he said. The number of beds in the Holy City will be 2,780 after completing the medical city which will provide 1,500 beds – in addition to 200 beds in Hira Hospital, 500 beds in King Abdul Aziz Hospital, 350 beds at King Faisal Hospital, 100 beds in Ajyad and Ibn Sina Hospitals each, and 30 beds in Al
