ISTANBUL — Officials say a crane operator in Turkey has died after drawing fire while driving through the barriers of a military base. State-run Anadolu Agency says soldiers at the Dalaman Aerodrome Command in western Turkey shot at the tires of the crane Sunday, causing it to fall into a ditch. Two soldiers were wounded. Anadolu on Monday quoted Amir Cicek, the local governor of Mugla province, as saying 21-year-old Adil Yildizli was drunk and drove into the base after police had tried to stop him. Cicek says the soldiers had first fired warning shots and that Yildizli died from the impact of the fall. He says terrorism is not suspected. — AP
