The first round of the FIA World Endurance Championship season at Silverstone recently saw the launch of something very different. While other manufacturer's technical innovations are a closely guarded secret, NISMO has chosen to pull back the curtain to reveal what goes on under the bonnet of the Nissan GT-R LM Nismo, the manufacturer's brand new Le Mans car. Nismo University will open up Nissan's world of endurance racing to both the media and the fans of the sport. It will engage with people on different levels but kicks off with a series of short films, hosted by some famous names, that will cover topics as diverse as front wheel drive on a race car versus road car, race-to-road aerodynamics, sprint racing versus endurance racing and the list goes on. The Nissan Nismo LM P1 team will publish its data during race meetings and provide features on the technical aspects of the sport for media, while asking fans to tell the team what they want to know. Media & Fan Forums will be held during race weekends. The first one took place at Silverstone and saw Marc Gene, Max Chilton, Harry Tincknell and Olivier Pla get a grilling from fans on the test program for the Nissan GT-R LM Nismo. Whether you're in school and want to learn more about motorsport or are a passionate fan with a thirst for knowledge, there will be a part of Nismo University for anyone who wants to learn more about the sport, the team, the Le Mans car and NISMO as a brand. If you are new to the sport, Nismo University will explain endurance racing and what it means to race at Le Mans. If you're already in the know, Nissan will provide you with a greater level of information about our car than any team has shared before. “We are all about innovation that excites but it's no good if we keep it all to ourselves!” said Nismo's Darren Cox. “When we set out on the path to LM P1 we promised to lift the lid on the technology we develop in the Nissan GT-R LM Nismo, which is effective a high-speed laboratory. We want to show everyone what it takes to compete against the best in the world and if we can engage with new fans and inspire some budding engineers along the way then we will have done a good job.” — SG
