Annika Sorenstam fired a superb 66 in the second round to take the outright lead in the Dubai Ladies Masters, her final tournament, on Friday. Starting the day four shots off the pace, the former world number one lit up her bogey-free round with a stunning eagle on the par-five third for a 36-hole total of eight-under-par 136, one clear of Australian Nikki Garrett, who also carded a 66. Russian sensation Maria Verchenova, another player to match the day's best score of 66, was tied for third on six-under 138 along with Veronica Zorzi of Italy and England's overnight leader Johanna Head. The day, however, belonged to Sorenstam, who once again was followed by a big crowd, in her last event before retiring. “My goal was to clean up the round that I had on Thursday, and with no bogeys today, I was able to do that. So, I have every reason to feel pleased with my efforts,” said Sorenstam. “I could have done even better. I hit some good putts that just didn't go in,” the 38-year-old, who is hoping for a hat-trick of Dubai titles to end a glittering career on a high note, told reporters. Henningsson shares lead European Tour newcomer Oskar Henningsson blazed around Leopard Creek in an eight-under-par 64 to earn a share of the halfway lead in the Alfred Dunhill Championship at Malelane, South Africa, Friday. Henningsson's two-round total of 11-under 133 put him level with joint first round leader, American Len Mattiace, and Englishman Robert Rock, who shot 68 and 67 respectively. In his first appearance in a European Tour event, Henningsson, 23, from Sweden, made eight birdies and no bogeys in the best round of the tournament so far. Henningsson gained his Tour card when he won the qualifying school in Spain last month, the first player to come through after playing in all three qualifying stages. Mattiace shot 65 and played solid golf, getting up and down for par after driving into water on the par-five 18th and having to lay up with his third shot. Rock, 31, played the second nine in five-under-par 32 for the second successive day. South African Sunshine Tour order of merit leader Richard Sterne shot a six-under-par 66 to be one off the pace. Dartnall shines Stephen Dartnall continued his surprising run of form by taking a two-shot lead in the rain-hit second round of the Australian Open at Royal Sydney on Friday. Joint leader with fellow Australians Mathew Goggin and Ewen Porter at seven-under par after the first round, Dartnall fired a four-under 68 on Friday to stand at 11 under at the halfway mark. Goggin was two shots back after struggling to a two-under 70 while Porter bogied two of his final three holes for a 71 and sits a shot further away. Defending champion Craig Parry is one of several big names set to miss the projected cut of one over, along with former champions Stuart Appleby and Peter Senior.
