A short circuit caused a massive fire Thursday in a 2,000-square-meter foodstuff warehouse at a complex of offices and housing in Khalidiyah District on the Dammam-Khobar Expressway. According to sources, the fire gutted the warehouse causing losses worth SR100 million and took seven hours to be extinguished. The fire was so huge that 12 teams from Civil Defense and six others from different organizations – Saudi Aramco, King Abdul Aziz Airbase, Eastern Province Command, National Guard, and Sa'ad Al-Sani Hospital in addition to 10 water tankers from the Mayoralty – were called to extinguish it. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
