I am writing with regard to the article “For what crime was Qamaruzzaman executed?” (Apr. 22). Despite appeals from international human rights organizations, Mohammad Qamaruzzaman a central leader and assistant secretary of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has been executed. Sheikh Hasina's government has continued its brutal hanging of the true Muslims of her country and the leaders of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. This clearly shows that the so-called International War Tribunal has disregarded all of the requirements of international justice and the teachings of Islam in order to appease the government of the country. It was only a few years ago that Sheikh Hasina formed a coalition government with the support of Jamaat-e-Islami. At that time, she did not see any fault in this party and its selfless leaders, nor were they considered guilty of crimes committed during the 1971 war. The action that is being taken now is an attempt to remove them from the political scene. I urge the Muslim Ummah as well as international human rights organizations to use their influence to stop the killing taking place in Bangladesh.
