The Ministry of Education has designated 16 education administrations to experimentally implement the curriculums emanating from the SR900 million national strategic project for development of education in mathematics and physical sciences. The ministry, together with local and international companies specialized in producing educational materials, participated in workshops and meetings with educational experts. The ministry expects most of the project's materials to be completed within three years and the rest of the contract duration will be allocated for evaluation, modification and development. The trial implementation will take place in 66 elementary schools and 44 intermediate schools, where 500 teachers of both sexes work. Dr. Abdullah Al-Obaid, Minister of Education, said specialized Saudi cadres make up the scientific committee. They have undergone international courses in mathematics and physical sciences to prepare a project suitable for students in the Kingdom. He said the project's philosophy is based on deep understanding and experiment-and-research-based active learning of the contents of advanced math and science materials. It also considers individual differences among learners, develops their skills by applying science in the classroom, and by relating science to other branches of knowledge. The project's philosophy in general stems from advanced educational theories on which international textbook series were built.
