The Makkah municipality has started cleaning the Muaisim Slaughterhouse in Mina at a total cost of SR5 million, said Safi Mujalad, the slaughterhouse supervisor. The municipality has contracted private companies to carry out a standard cleaning and sanitation process of five different areas of this municipality-owned slaughter facility. On the first day of Eid, the municipality deployed field inspectors throughout the city as part of its preventive measures this year to curb the number of unlicensed butchers in Makkah, he said. “No case of running an illegal butchery was reported during the first three days of Eid,” he said. The municipality has set up 57 checkpoints earlier at the entry points of Makkah to stop unlicensed truckloads of animals from going into the holy city, he said. __
