MAKKAH — The medical Shariah committees have said medical mistakes committed by doctors, nurses and technicians resulted in the deaths of 167 people in 2014. According to the Ministry of Health's annual statistical report for 2014, the committees cleared hospitals of any wrongdoing in 48 percent of medical mistakes which caused the deaths of 153 people. The committees were established by the concerned judicial authorities to look into cases of medical mistakes and determine responsibility. According to the report, published by Makkah daily on Wednesday, the Ministry of Health does not have an index for medical proficiency at its hospitals. Jeddah has the lowest health services compared to other cities in the Kingdom. For every 10,000 people, Jeddah has 0.3 hospitals, 5.6 doctors, 10.7 male and female nurses, 0.3 pharmacists, 7.1 ancillary medical staff, 2.63 health centers and 7.3 hospital beds.
