A man in his 30s died from suffocation Sunday afternoon in a fire that broke out in his apartment in Al-Salamah District in Hali south of Qunfudha. The man, Mahdi Ibrahim Al-Shaikhi, who came here from Jeddah to spend the Eid holidays with his family, was sleeping alone in the apartment when the fire started. Neighbors saw smoke coming out of the apartment and reported to the Civil Defense, whose team controlled the fire, broke the door and found the man lying dead inside. Sergeant Huraibi Al-Amri, Hali Civil Defense Director, said a short circuit had caused the fire.
