RIYADH — The Houthi militias and their allies linked to the ousted president Ali Abdullah Saleh are targeting civilian homes in Aden, said Brig. Gen. Ahmad Al-Asiri, spokesperson of the coalition forces and adviser at the office of the minister of defense, here on Sunday. The militias have cut off electricity to water pumps and homes, he said in a news briefing. Asiri said the logistical support operations are continuing in Aden for popular committees, which are fighting on the ground to repulse Houthi attacks. The popular committees do not have heavy weapons, so the coalition forces are airdropping weapons to them ensuring that these weapons don't fall into the hands of the militias. “We have received information about the existence of militia command centers in cities and hotels,” Asiri said, adding that work is going on to verify the information and ways to deal with the situation. A Houthi camp, which was detected in the southern most point on Saudi border, has been completely destroyed, he said. Attempts by the rebels to move toward Aden port have also been foiled. The coalition forces are monitoring Yemeni ports to prevent militia movements or the arrival of support for them. The coalition forces are continuing to target trucks and militia groups in many Yemeni towns. The spokesperson said the coalition forces were in full control of the Yemeni airspace, so they don't need the airspace of any other country.
Asiri said the next few days will prove the success of the campaign. “We have a clear plan. We are achieving the objectives as specified at the outset.” He said the evacuation of various nationalities was continuing. Requests from various humanitarian organizations are being received for treating the injured and the sick, Asiri said, adding that a website has been set up to receive such requests.
