Race for Elaf Super-7 quarters gathers steam

JEDDAH — Teams fought hard to boost their chances of booking a berth in the quarterfinals during the second week of action in the UPL Elaf Super-7, 2015. The 5-over cricket spectacle is sponsored by Elaf Jeddah Hotel and organized by United Premier League here.
The opening match of the second week kicked off with Elaf Gold beating Al Max-1 by 5 runs. Al Max-1 restricted Elaf Gold to 61 for 3. Shahid (27) played a significant innings after the team lost 3 wickets early with Qamar Abbas scoring 13. Quraishi seized all 3 wickets for 4 runs. In response, Al Max-1 succumbed to pressure exerted by Amjad and Adnan who ended up with identical figures of 1 for 2. Skipper Azeem hammered 28 off 14 balls.
Elaf Red beat Target Guys by 41 runs. Batting first, Elaf Red raced to 87 with Anwar Chandi smashing 38 (16 balls). Shahbaz and Khurram scored 17 each, while Raheem and Shamsuddin clutched a wicket apiece. In return, Target Guys could manage only 46 for 4. Shahbaz Jr. remained unbeaten on 16.
The third match saw Lothers Green wallop Al Max-2 by 5 wickets. Al-Max 2 set a decent target of 65 with Azhar contributing 42 (23). Khuram took 1-3. Chasing the reasonable total, Lothers Green made a mark after their first round defeat by comfortably reaching the target in 3.3 overs. Imran scored a whirlwind 42 off 15 balls. Azhar took 1-15.
Kerry Packers registered a thumping win over TechYorker Red. Abdul Wahid wreaked havoc with an extraordinary display of power-hitting by striking 8 towering sixes in his score of 68 (21). TechYorker Red, in response could only reach 41 for 4. Iftikhar and Zahid took 1 wicket each.
JICC was knocked out of quarterfinals race as it lost its second match to Elaf Blue by 2 wickets. JICC failed to set a challenging total as its batsmen struggled against solid bowling of Elaf Blue. Madhura picked up 2 wickets while Farzan grabbed 1. Madhura starred again in batting as he scored a quick-fire 18 (6) to reach the target of 53 with 5 balls to spare. Sahil picked up 2 wickets for 9.
The match between Young Star and Rising Star ended in a tie. Young Star struggled as only Aamir managed to score 33 (15) to take the total to 53. Rising Star started promisingly with openers Imtiyaz and Waqar scoring 24 (17) and 16 (10), respectively, but lost wickets at crucial times. Ali hit a mighty six to tie the game while needing 7 runs off the last delivery.
Waheed-XI recorded its second victory against Lothers Niagra. Liaqat played a thunderous knock of 43 (19) in helping Waheed set a target of 68. Lothers Niagra batsmen failed to stay at the wicket for long and fell short by 11. Razzaq picked up 2 for 5.
