Eight Nigerian pilgrims died and 39 others suffered different injuries when the bus carrying them overturned Friday evening on their way to Makkah from Madina. Six died on the spot and the other two died in Wadi Al-Fare' Hospital which is located near the accident scene. Fourteen ambulatory teams from the Ministry of Health and the Red Crescent rushed the injured to Wadi Al-Fare' Hospital and King Fahd Hospital in Madina. According to one of the injured pilgrims, the accident was caused by over speeding and the Egyptian driver falling asleep at the wheel. The bus veered off its lane and overturned 120 kilometers from Madina on Al-Hijra Road. Dr. Aqeel Bin Jam'aan Al-Ghamdi, director general of health affairs in Madina region, said the critically and moderately injured pilgrims were sent to the hospitals in Madina while others were kept in Wadi Al-Fare' Hospital. King Fahd Hospital received 25 cases - 17 of them were admitted and four were in a critical condition. Eleven injured were released after receiving medical treatment.
