Okaz/Saudi Gazette MAKKAH, MADINAH, JAZAN, BISHA — Three young men drowned in a valley in Bisha governorate in Asir Province and an 18-month-old infant girl died on Al-Sail Road between Taif and Makkah as heavy rains and floods lashed various parts of the Kingdom on Tuesday. Capt. Naif Al-Sharif, spokesman of the Civil Defense in Makkah, said 17 rescue brigades were able to rescue 47 people, including four children, who were trapped in the rains and floods on Al-Sail Road between the towns of Al-Maghmas and Al-Lihyaniah near Taif. "The little girl was pulled out of the waters but she was already dead," he said. The spokesman said the waters also trapped about 15 vehicles which were towed away by the Civil Defense rescue teams. Abdullah Bin Saleh Al-Moalim, director of the department of health affairs in Makkah region, said all hospitals and health centers have been put on maximum alert to deal with emergency cases. Meanwhile, Director of Asir Civil Defense, Maj. Gen. Mohammed Bin Rafie Al-Shihri, said the three young men drowned in a valley in Bisha governorate when their car was swept away by flood waters as they were trying to cross the valley. He said citizens were able to pull one of the dead bodies out of the vehicle while Civil Defense personnel pulled out the two others. Light to moderate rain showers also fell on Madinah and a number of its governorates but no casualties were reported.
