BJP leader Subramanian Swamy has sparked off a massive controversy by saying that mosques and churches are mere “buildings” to offer prayers and they are not religious places so there is no problem in demolishing them. Swamy made these controversial statements in a program at Guwahati, Assam, India. Such people are dangerous because they can set our beloved India 100 years back with their suffocating communal agendas. Swamy's speech was not only unfortunate, but it was obnoxious as well. The very idea of dividing people along communal lines for electoral gains is dangerous. It is not clear whether Swamy's communal remarks were a publicity stunt or a true expression of his feelings. Any action or remark that hurts the feelings of people belonging to a particular community is against the letter and spirit of the Indian Constitution. Dividing people on the basis of caste and creed is no less dangerous than disrupting communal harmony. The Sangh Parivar is back to its old ways. It disowned Nathuram Godse after he assassinated Mahatma Gandhi. After presiding over the demolition of the Babri Masjid, BJP leader L.K. Advani described Dec. 6 as the saddest day of his life. Now the BJP has dissociated itself from Swamy's hate speech, but he continues to be its leader. Swamy's attitude has not only tarnished the image of the BJP but has also sent a message to the masses that the party has not shed its saffron robes. The true colors of the Sangh Parivar and BJP are slowly becoming apparent. This country is ours and it is owned by its citizens not by a single sect or community. The citizens of India must not support such people. Mir Gazanfar Ali Zaki, Jeddah
