DUBAI – UAE-based Barajoun Entertainment has released a two-minute teaser for its upcoming animation feature film “Bilal” that has caused waves on social media. Zuhair Fayez, chairman of the studio, said the project involves professionals from at least 22 countries. “We are pushing the envelope in the region, and I believe ‘Bilal' is the first step," he said. “Our goal is to inspire and be inspired by surrounding ourselves with the best talents in the business.” “A wise man once said, ‘Great stories happened to those who can tell them,'" added Ayman Jamal, writer andexecutive producer. “We understand that stories build bonds and connections, facilitate communication and transcend borders; our aim is bring to life inspiring stories born out of heritage and culture and also have global values. “And because we believe that there isn't anyone you couldn't learn to love once you have heard their story. Our mandate is to bring to life stories that history has forgotten." Barajoun's first film is inspired by the true story of an actual African hero and his journey from facing dire oppression to becoming a noble leader. Bilal became the guardian and protector of his young sister when they were abducted during their childhood. The suffering they endured and his ultimate defiance transformed Bilal into one of the most prominent figures of his age and time and a personality that is both loved and respected all over the world to this day. “The bond between siblings is something that is rarely highlighted these days. To have lost everything you held dear is an immense loss," Jamal said. “It is only through love and support that Bilal and his sister manage to rise, to raise one's voice against oppression and injustice even when all odds are stacked against them," he said. “These sentiments are universal and transcend race, language or culture.” Khurram Alavi, director, said Barajoun Entertainment chose to take inspiration from the actual account of Bilal's life and reimagine it in a “colorful and unique” way. “The story is solely focused on Bilal's personal journey," he said. “The historic milestones remain the same. Yet we have taken artistic liberties to enhance the storytelling and dramatic value of the story. “This means the addition of fictional characters as well as fictional depictions of various sets and props. “The film is more ‘symbolic' than it is ‘realistic', and we have made sure the soul of the story remains true to the actual account." The voice of Bilal is dubbed by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, who is known for his roles in “Lost”, “Thor: The Dark World” and the upcoming popular television show “Game of Thrones”. “Bilal” is set for release this fall. — SG
