Over 40,000 fake products were confiscated in raids carried out in several areas of Jeddah, Makkah and Riyadh on Sunday. Teams from Commercial Fraud Committee in the Ministry of Commerce in cooperation with the global sports brand Adidas confiscated counterfeit products of the German sports apparel manufacturer from a store in Jeddah and Riyadh. “The fake products cost around SR1 million. Out of the confiscated items there were 15,489 shoes from a store in Al-Batha'a area in Riyadh,” said an official in the Ministry of Commerce requesting anonymity. The campaign was headed by Jaber Abdullah, member in the Commercial Fraud Committee at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry branch in Riyadh. “We went to Al-Khalidiyah stores in Jeddah where we confiscated 23,750 products including shoes, socks, handbags, hats, gloves, and other sports accessories,” the official added. “These products cost about SR700,000,” he said.
