There is a growing need to fight extremism and fanaticism in all its shapes and forms, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman said in Riyadh Thursday.
Talking to a gathering of scholars who participated in the just concluded three-day “Islam and Combating Terrorism,” King Salman beseeched Almighty Allah to keep fanaticism and extremism away from the Muslim Ummah as these traits are immensely harming the image of Islam.
“We all are aware that Islam is the religion of moderation. We must follow what is there in the Holy Qur'an, the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and teachings of the of the rightly-guided caliphs,” the King was quoted as saying by Saudi Press Agency.
It is necessary, the King said, to work for the unity of the Ummah and avoid steps that alienate Muslims. “There are people who try to wean people away from Islam and those who abuse the noble message of Islam. We beseech Allah Almighty to guide them to the right path,” he said.
The King lauded the outcome of the conference organized by the Muslim World League and hoped that the Ummah benefits from the deliberations at the conference.
By strictly adhering to the Holy Book and the Prophet's Sunnah the Kingdom enjoys security and stability and continues to march toward prosperity and development, the King said.
“The Kingdom considers its greatest responsibility is to protect the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque as well as safeguarding the security of pilgrims, Umrah performers and visitors,” the King said. Successive Saudi governments, he said, have taken the task of providing security to the millions of pilgrims every year with pride and modesty.
