Khalid Al-Jabry Okaz/Saudi Gazette MADINAH — Two members of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice were fired after committing multiple monetary and administrative violations. The National Anti-Corruption Commission (Nazaha) forwarded the two members to the Control and Investigation Board after they refused to respond to the specialized committee formed by the presidency to look into their case. A source from the commission said the two members have multiple violations that were considered valid grounds for their firing. “They exploited the presidency's budget for their own personal gain and interest. One of them got married by misyar (a marriage contract in which the husband and wife consummate the marriage but give up many of their rights such as housing and alimony) and would be absent from duty for weeks at a time,” said the source. He added they both exceeded their unauthorized absence allocation and their salaries were not suspended as a result. When they did show up and come into office they would assign other members and employees in the presidency to fake committees and unnecessary tasks, he said. “The presidency sent them notices and told them they will be forwarded to Nazaha if they did not respond and change their work attitude. “When they found out their issue would escalate they applied for a vacation to escape the ramifications. “Their application was rejected and they were then fired from the presidency.” He continued if they had responded to the specialized committee the case might have gone differently, but their negligence and attempt to avoid the authorities made the presidency take immediate and drastic action. “The presidency usually solves such issues internally without the interference of Nazaha or any legal authorities. “However, the two former members have been resisting the presidency's attempts to mitigate the consequences.”
