LONDON — Premier League leader Chelsea ended a turbulent week with a disappointing 1-1 home draw against struggler Burnley Saturday that gave Manchester City fresh hope in the title race. Chelsea took an early lead through Branislav Ivanovic, but after Nemanja Matic had been sent off for lashing out at Ashley Barnes, Ben Mee headed in an 81st-minute equalizer. Chelsea also had three penalty appeals turned down and manager Jose Mourinho's mood will not be improved if second-place City trim his side's lead to five points by beating Newcastle United later Saturday. Ivanovic struck in the 14th minute, finishing from six yards after Eden Hazard had weaved his way through a posse of defenders on the Chelsea right. But the tide began to turn in the 70th minute when Ivanovic's countryman Matic was sent off for shoving Barnes to the ground after the Burnley midfielder caught him on the shin with an ugly challenge. Eleven minutes later, the visitors claimed a scarcely hoped-for draw when Mee headed home Kieran Trippier's left-wing corner at the back post. Meanwhile, Manchester United lost momentum in the battle for Champions League places after seeing a 19-game unbeaten run come to an end in a 2-1 defeat at Swansea City. Ander Herrera celebrated his return to the starting XI by putting United ahead in the 28th minute after a sweeping move, only for Ki Sung-yueng to equalize almost immediately from Jonjo Shelvey's cross. Swansea claimed victory in the 73rd minute when Shelvey's 25-yard shot flicked off teammate Bafetimbi Gomis and flew past United goalkeeper David de Gea. The goal, credited to Gomis, allowed Swansea to complete a first ever home-and-away league double over United, following its 2-1 win at Old Trafford on the season's opening weekend. Arsenal capitalized on United's slip-up with a 2-1 win at London rival Crystal Palace that saw Arsene Wenger's side climb to third place in the table. Santi Cazorla opened the scoring in the eighth minute with a penalty awarded after Pape Souare was adjudged to have fouled Danny Welbeck in an incident that appeared to have occurred just outside the area. Olivier Giroud added a second on the stroke of half-time. Glenn Murray tapped in a stoppage-time consolation for Palace. Elsewhere, Tim Sherwood began his tenure as Aston Villa manager with a cruel 2-1 loss at home to Stoke City that saw his new side slip below Burnley to second-bottom, while Queens Park Rangers lost 2-1 at relegation rivals Hull City. In the day's other game, Sunderland and West Bromwich Albion played out a drab 0-0 draw. Malaga stuns Barca A lackluster Barcelona squandered the chance to go top of La Liga after crashing to a shock 1-0 home defeat by Malaga Saturday. The stage was set for the Catalan side to move two points ahead of Real Madrid, which faces Elche Sunday. Seventh-placed Malaga took a surprise lead after Dani Alves tried to nonchalantly side-foot volley a back-pass but Juanmi nipped in before the ball reached Claudio Bravo and he rounded the keeper before slotting into an empty net after seven minutes. Barca remained a point off Real at the top. Pablo Sarabia scored one goal and set up another to help Getafe beat Espanyol 2-1 Friday. Bayern routs Paderborn Arjen Robben scored twice and helped set up two more as Bayern Munich routed 10-man Paderborn 6-0 away to go 11 points clear in the Bundesliga Saturday. Robben set up Robert Lewandowski in the 24th minute, Franck Ribery did likewise in the 37th, and Robben then converted a penalty in the 63rd, after Florian Hartherz was sent off for bringing him down. The Dutchman helped Ribery score in the 72nd and the Frenchman returned the favor in the 86th, eight minutes after Mitchell Weiser made it 5-0. Elsewhere, Augsburg goalkeeper Marwin Hitz struck in injury time to salvage a 2-2 draw against Bayer Leverkusen, Sebastian Proedl did likewise for Werder Bremen to draw 1-1 at Schalke, and Mainz defeated Eintracht Frankfurt 3-1 in Martin Schmidt's first game as coach. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was again on target as Borussia Dortmund moved further clear of the relegation zone Friday with a 3-2 victory at VfB Stuttgart. Juventus extends lead Juventus extended its Serie A lead to 10 points after coming from behind to beat relegation-threatened Atalanta 2-1 Friday. Giuliano Migliaccio put Atalanta ahead in the 25th minute, before two goals in quick succession from Fernando Llorente and Andrea Pirlo gave Juve a half-time lead. Monaco wins at Nice Substitute Bernardo Silva scored a late winner as 10-man Monaco geared up for its Champions League trip to Arsenal with a 1-0 win at local rival Nice in the French league. The win provisionally lifted Monaco into fourth place on 43 points, with Nice in ninth on 34 points. Migliacco scored with a header off a corner, Llorente equalized from close-range in the 39th even though Carlos Tevez appeared offside, and Pirlo scored the winner in the 45th with a shot from 25 meters. — Agencies
