MAKKAH - The Dubai and Makkah chambers of commerce and industry have signed a memorandum of understanding to support and facilitate e-commerce.
The MoU was signed in Makkah on Thursday during a ceremony attended by senior officials from the two chambers.
Under the MoU, an international platform for electronic trade will be launched to serve more than 41 million users.
Atiq Bin Juma Naseeb, first deputy CEO of the Dubai chamber, expressed happiness over the signing of the MoU and said it was a result of long years of close and systematic cooperation between the two chambers.
"Makkah chamber is the first Arab chamber with which we have signed a partnership agreement," he said.
Chairman of the Makkah chamber Maher Saleh Jamal and its Acting Secretary-General Ibrahim Bardeshi attended the signing ceremony.
The Makkah chamber is the first chamber in the Kingdom and the second in the Middle East and Africa to make e-transactions.
"The move will enable the two chambers to open new markets, create new trading opportunities and boost trade exchange between the Kingdom and United Arab Emirates," Naseeb said.
He said the Kingdom is the first trade and economic partner to the UAE. "Our duty as businessmen is to further enhance these ties between the two countries," he said.
