Master watchmaker Kurt Klaus, the man credited with single-handedly inventing one of the most ingenious perpetual calendar watch movements in the world, for luxury Swiss watchmaker IWC conducted two watch making workshops in the UAE recently. The workshops were attended by 60 elite customers of IWC. A marvel of mechanical engineering that spells excellence, watches created by IWC with movements created by Kurt Klaus, rank as highly coveted possessions around the world. “Kurt Klaus is a living link to a bygone era of watch making,” said Gianfranco D'Attis, Regional Brand manager of IWC. “Mr Klaus created a miracle of micro engineering with Da Vinci as it is mechanically programmed to give the wearer the right date and time until the year 2500, requiring only a minute adjustment about once a century.” He noted that the story of this watch began half a century ago when young Kurt, having finished four years of watch making school presented himself at IWC's manufactory in Schaffhausen (Switzerland). To envisage a mechanical product that would work for centuries takes a special turn of mind - the mechanical master piece is typical of the patient and far-sighted man - Kurt Klaus. The 73-year old genius has been in the watch making industry for 51 years and has trained a series of master watchmakers who now work for watch making brands around the world. The legendary Kurt Klaus is the first master watchmaker to have a watch named after him from IWC.
