This article is not an attack on all dawah (the act of preaching Islam) activists. It is wrong to generalize as there are many who are God-fearing and work day and night to improve themselves and the way they promote virtue and prevent vice. I want rather to focus on fake activists.
When I saw the video of little Ghayda that was recently posted on social media websites, I remembered these fake activists. In the video, 10-year-old Ghayda cries and advises all girls to repent to Allah. She then tells the story of a girl who used to skip prayer and loved to spend her time listening and dancing to music. This girl then died while dancing and without saying: “I testify there is no God but Allah and Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is his messenger”. The dawah event was held in Jazan.
After Ghayda stopped talking, one of the event's organizers who is an activist, grabbed the microphone from her hand and started shouting at the audience: “This little girl is crying, why don't you cry like her? Why don't you learn from it?” I want those activists to justify putting a little girl through all this suffering. The girl was crying and frightened to death while she spoke about death and punishment.
Fake activists are dangerous because they deceive people into believing that they, the activists, are really helping them for the sake of Allah and that they do not want anything in return. But in reality, they ask for a lot of money for things such as a bottle of oil or water that they then give to people saying that it can be used to treat certain medical conditions.
Those fake activists were also the ones who encouraged young men to go and fight in conflicts abroad. How do these people convince members of the public to go and fight abroad? How do they convince people, such as those in Jazan, to listen to them? How are they able to influence members of the public? Readers should judge for themselves. Do not take my words for granted nor the words of others. Always read and analyze information before acting. Use your mind, which is the most precious tool a human being has.
