RIYADH — The Ministry of Labor is currently undertaking a study to curb the black market on the recruitment of housemaids, Al-Watan daily reported on Sunday.
Ministry sources said the forgery of work visas means the same housemaids are illegally registered to more than one recruitment office in the Kingdom.
The sources said the ministry is considering implementing a rule where the names of housemaids and their passport numbers are clearly stated on the work visas being sent to them so that they are not distributed to more than one recruitment office in the Kingdom.
They said a number of Saudis have complained that the housemaids they have contracted have gone to recruitment offices other than the ones they originally approached for the processing of work visas for their housemaids.
The sources said the citizens have also complained about the long delays in the arrival of their housemaids.
They said the current work visas issued by the recruitment offices for the housemaids do not specify their names or time of arrival.
The sources expected the ministry to implement rules and regulations after the study is completed and approved to put an end to the practice of changing work contracts with housemaids after they have been approved by their respective embassies.
The local recruitment offices complained that the foreign offices they are dealing with do not supply them with sufficient data on the housemaids being imported.
