RIYADH — The Janadriyah National Festival for Heritage and Culture has been postponed to the next year because of the death of King Abdullah, an official source of Higher Committee of the festival said.
He said a Royal directive has been issued to this effect.
The festival was scheduled to be held from Feb. 4 to 22 at the Janadriyah heritage village located on the outskirts of Riyadh.
Germany was to be the guest of honor at the 30th edition of the festival. The festival, which started in mid 80s, was the brainchild of the late King Abdullah. The festival had always been held under his patronage.
The festival is organized by the National Guard.
The festival, which draws more than one million visitors every year, showcases Saudi heritage, tradition and culture.
Activities include a camel race, operetta, folk poetry, popular market, arts and popular games, display of unique heritage of the regions, exhibition of folk costumes, a book fair, display of traditional crafts such as pottery, weaving, woodwork, metalwork, and leatherwork.
