OMAN Air has appointed Hamad Mohamed Al-Harthy as its new Country Manager for Oman. Al Harthy's appointment is effective immediately and he is based at the airline's headquarters in Muscat. Hamad Mohammed Al-Harthy is a science graduate of Sultan Qaboos University and has developed his career as an aviation professional since joining Oman Air as a management trainee in 2002. He was then appointed to the role of sales executive in Muscat, before being promoted to District Sales Manager in Saudi Arabia, followed by Oman, and finally rising to Country Manager in India. His appointment to Country Manager in Oman sees him taking up one of the most prestigious roles of its kind within the national carrier of the Sultanate of Oman.
Welcoming Al-Harthy to his new position, Oman Air's Chief Operating Officer Abdulrahaman Al-Busaidy said: “We are delighted to have appointed Hamad Mohammed Al-Harthy to the role of Country Manager for Oman, where his undoubted experience and expertise will prove invaluable as Oman Air enters its next phase of ambitious expansion. Hamad will have responsibility for increasing sales in Oman at a time when Oman Air is poised to expand its international network of destinations, facilitated by the arrival from later this year of the 24 new aircraft we currently have on order. The first new routes we will add to our current network of 43 destinations will be launched in December and will operate between Muscat and Manila, and Muscat and Jakarta.”
“Furthermore, the forthcoming opening of the new Muscat International Airport and a number of regional airports will enable Oman Air to expand its domestic services. This process started with the increase in flights between Muscat and Salalah, and the launch earlier this year of a new scheduled service between Muscat and Duqm.”
Oman Air's next phase of expansion will be signaled by the arrival in with the delivery in October of the first of 15 new Boeing B737s, and will continue when the takes receipt of the first of three new Airbus A330s from November 2014, and six Boeing B787 Dreamliners from September 2015. — SG
