JEDDAH — Braaem Independent Living (BIL), a center for children with special needs, recently organized a Fruit Festival in its school premises. The fun-filled festival was thoroughly enjoyed by children of the special school. At the event, the autistic children were introduced to variety of fruits of different colors; they were taught to slice the fruits and make colorful salads. The children enjoyed preparing and eating salad and sharing with friends too. Each kid was provided with a tray of colorful fruits, strings and bowls and with the help of the instructors each kid individually prepared the salad. “Braaem Independent Living (BIL) is a school that transforms lives by providing the best environment possible for students with specific learning challenges to realize their academic, social, and creative potentials. Our students come from diverse backgrounds and different nationalities. English is the medium of instruction. BIL takes children form the age of 2 +. BIL enrolls students who have been diagnosed with dyslexia, deficits in executive function, attention deficit disorders (ADD or ADHD), disorders of written expression, autism spectrum disorder and speech and language needs,” said Faiza Abdul Aziz, the director of Braaem. Abdul Aziz appreciated the students' participation and even praised the teachers who helped in making the event successful. Autistic children who suffer from Attention Deficit Syndrome (ADS) can concentrate on a subject for only 15 minutes and need to be given extra care, love and concern; they need help to understand and build confidence in a different way.
