Creative Gavel Club holds an oratory contest on first anniversary

DAMMAM — As a part of the ongoing education and training process, Creative Gavel Club, a club formed under Area 25 of Toastmasters International, held table topics contest for the members of the club on December 28 at the Kanoo Building to mark their first anniversary.

Around 27 Gaveliers, aged between 8 and 13 years, dazzled the audience with their impromptu speaking abilities on a given subject.

Group A comprised Gaveliers studying in grades 3 and 4. Jishnu Anil Kumar won the first place while GV Ayesha Razia and GV Syed Zaid Albeez were placed second and third place respectively. They had shared their perspectives on the the topic "Do you give excuses for not going to School?"

Group B comprising Gaveliers studying in grades 5, 6 and 7 expressed their views on "Explain how homework could be harmful to health?

The current president of the club, Mohammed Ibrahim, was adjudged the best speaker while Mohammed Yusuf Yasin and Syed Omar Albeez got the second and third prize respectively.

Group C comprised Gaveliers studying in grade 8 and above, and they spoke eloquently on "What human quality we need more and why?"

The president elect, Sadiqa Yasin, was declared the best speaker in this category while Ardra Unni and Nawazish Jezuli got the second and third prize respectively.

Experienced toastmaster Balachandran Pillai was the chief judge, who was assisted by senior toastmasters.

The contest, spread in three categories, was conducted by Iesha Ahmed and Varadeesh Chandrasekar.

Within one year of its existence, Creative Gavel Club, a brain child of Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) N.C. Mani, a dedicated toastmaster, has gained popularity in the Toastmasters Fraternity. With the help of several senior toastmasters, the Creative club has turned many Gaveliers into seasoned orators.

Toastmasters is an international organization having presence in most of the countries and enables members to learn the art of public speaking in a friendly environment. The Toastmasters movement has gained greater strength in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during the past decade.
