Greenlanders live essentially off of fishing, exporting 87 percent of what they catch, and subsidies from the Danish state. The state currently gives Greenland about $619 million, accounting for 45 percent of Greenland's budget. The island has yet to exploit some of its lucrative natural resources, including gold, diamonds and oil. __
