RIYADH – A joint delegation from the Shoura Council, King Saud and Imam Muhammad Bin Saud universities, the National Anti-Corruption Commission and the private sector recently refuted rumors circulating on the social media that inmates of the General Intelligence Prison in Al-Hayer and Muhammad Bin Naif Advice Center were being subjected to torture. The delegation issued a statement after paying surprise visits to the prison and advice center. Shoura Council member Dr. Fahd Bin Jum'ah said the visits, which lasted for 10 hours, were the result of a private initiative to determine the condition of detainees, especially men and women enrolled in the rehabilitation program at the advice center after they recanted affiliation to deviant ideology. The initiative followed tendentious efforts to spread rumors through Twitter hashtags that the detainees in the prisons were being abused and tortured. “We toured the prison facilities and spoke to the detainees freely and it turned out that they were all in good health and were being treated well,” Jum'ah said.
