I am writing with regard to the article "Modi takes poll campaign to Kashmir separatist stronghold" (Dec. 9). Nothing short of the right of self-determination is acceptable to Kashmiris. The visit of Mr. Modi will not win the sympathies of the people of Kashmir, who are fighting for their right to decide whether to join Pakistan or India, which was promised to the Muslims of the Indian subcontinent at the time of independence from Great Britain. Kashmir's accession to India was illegal and shall be illegal unless India agrees to hold a plebiscite in Kashmir whose final destiny is nothing but freedom from India. India has no right to hold Jammu and Kashmir and claim it as its territory. The BJP is fooling the masses of India. Kashmir has sacrificed more than 150,000 lives and property and time for the last 25 years for its just cause. A few opportunist people do not represent Jammu and Kashmir. Development does not mean taking away the rights of people and giving them false hope.
