Drug tests likely on scholarship students By Abdulmohsin Al-Harthi RIYADH – Students being sent on scholarships abroad may have to undergo a drug test, a Ministry of Higher Education proposal said. The drug tests have also been proposed for scholarship students coming from abroad. Dr. Abdullah Mousa, Undersecretary for Scholarship Affairs at the ministry, said the proposal will soon be presented to Dr. Khaled Al-Anqari, Minister of Higher Education. The Kingdom sends more than 6,000 students of both genders every year to foreign countries. More than 40,000 students are currently studying abroad. – Okaz/SG Al-Turki appeal verdict on Jan. 6 By Khaled Al-Blahdi and Mansour Al-Shehri KHOBAR/RIYADH – The Colorado Court of Appeal has fixed Jan. 6 as a date to issue a final verdict in the case of the Saudi higher studies student Humaidan Al-Turki who is now detained in a US prison. According to Fahd Al-Nassar, spokesman for Al-Turki's family, there are three possible decisions: Accepting the challenge to the trial and retrying the defendant, accepting the challenge to the sentence and changing it, and refusing the challenges and approving the verdict. – Okaz/SG Scholarships for 6 female employees By Yasmin Al-Hamad JEDDAH – Dr. Khalid Bin Abdullah Bin Muqrin Al-Mishary Al-Saud, Deputy Minister of Education for Girls' Education, has decided to send six female employees on scholarship to a number of universities abroad. The scholarships are for Amal Bint Ali Al-Nazar, Ghada Bint Muhammad Al-Muhallal, Maryam Bint Muhammad Al-Shammari and Fatima Bint Abdul Mohsin Al-Brahim, who will be sent to Arabian Gulf University in Bahrain to obtain masters degrees in education, distance learning and education for the gifted. The other number, 800122100, has been designated for volunteers and guides, through which they can get information on workshops, forums and other events. The Centennial Fund is a charitable establishment that finance projects carried out by young Saudis through loans.
