Violators of traffic rules will now have to cough up double the penalty if the fine is not paid within 30 days. If the fine imposed is SR150 and is not paid within 30 days it will double to SR300 through a new computerized system. Also, the violating motorist must sign the traffic violation ticket issued to him admitting that he has made the violation. These provisions are part of new traffic regulations approved by the Directorate General for Traffic, an official source said. He pointed out that all the traffic violation tickets being issued at present are in implementation of the new regulation based on doubling the fine after the specified period. The violation ticket will also bear a warning at the top that the fine would double after 30 days. As to the objectives of the new regulation, the source said the main goal was to put a limit to traffic violations and to deter reckless motorists. The source added that there are motorists who are heedless of the traffic regulations besides many who do not settle their fines. He stressed that the directorate general aims at deterring such motorists and at coordinating with a number of bodies to realize the fines within the specified time.
