Part of a flyover that collapsed in Dammam will be torn down and rebuilt, according to the deputy mayor of the Eastern Province metropolis. Part of that bridge, which had been under construction in the city's Area 91, had caved in shortly after the concrete was poured a week ago, killing one and injuring several other workers. “The bridge at the Mukthathamania that collapsed will be reconstructed only after a thorough investigation,” said Dammam Deputy Mayor Jamal Al-Mulheim. He said that only the section of the damaged bridge that had collapsed would be rebuilt. The local contracting company that built the bridge, Derbas Construction, and municipal engineers are currently investigating why the bridge came down and what other sections must be repaired, he said. One Bangladeshi worker was killed in the accident, while 15 other workers from Bangladesh and India were injured, two of them seriously. The bridge, which will connect the Dammam Ladies Training College Road to the Toyota market area, is one of several now being built in the Greater Dammam Area to streamline traffic. For some time now, motorists using some of the completed bridges in Dammam have been complaining that some underpasses are prone to water accumulation from rain and gathered water. One Dammam resident said that the underpass near the Dammam Sports Center is oftentimes dangerous, because water constantly leaks from the sides of the underpass and onto the asphalt. “Motorists have to slow down every time they cross this bridge because of the water,” said the resident, who wished to remain anonymous. “It is also often under repair.” __
