RIYADH — The Ministry of Interior will introduce an one-time password (OTP) system for taking advantage of its online services effective from Thursday. Atiyyah Al-Enzi, director of the electronic services at the National Information Center under the ministry, said that the new move is aimed at ensuring the security and privacy of the beneficiaries of the ministry's online services, the Saudi Press Agency reported. “This will enable the ministry to know precisely the identity of the user before he takes advantage of the ministry's online services. This also shows the ministry's keenness to guarantee the criteria of security and quality to those who have registered with the website,” he said. According to OTP, the user can have access to the website by using a password that will be sent to him via text message and it is valid for only one login session or transaction. It is noteworthy that the MoI website is one of the most popular government electronic gates in the Kingdom. There are more than four million citizens and expatriates registered with the gate, which provides more than 100 services. Abshir, the e-services website of the Passports General Directorate, is making available most of these services, including issuance of exit and reentry visa, issuance and renewal of visit visa for family members, and to know about traffic violations and expiry dates of iqama (residency permit), and vehicle license and insurance.
