THE Khamis Mushayt-Bisha Road is the road connecting the most two important governorates in Asir province. Endless catastrophic accidents take place on the road. “The Death Trap” and the “Road of No Return” are just alternatives names for this road, where families of two, three, four and five have been killed. Many of us have seen such horrific accidents unfold before our very own eyes. Both governorates are heavily populated and enjoy a lot of business activities, increasing the number of heavy trucks transporting cement and fodder on the road. Also, hundreds of students, male and female, travel on the road on the way to school. Workers and other travelers use the road, which cuts across several villages and towns. There are many causes for the traffic accidents, the most important of which it is a road without a divider. Royal directives were issued to transform it into a dual carriageway and it proving to be one of the difficult projects for the Department of Transport in Asir. Perhaps the most difficult phase of the project was the second, linking the towns of Khaibar Al-Janoub and Samak. This is where the road gets tough because of the terrain between these two places. Moreover, the road has dangerous curves and many of the road users, especially heavy vehicle drivers, do not comply with the speed limit and do not follow traffic rules and signs. It is important to educate the general public about this road. I say to the authorities concerned: Fear Allah and implement more projects. The longer you wait, the higher the fatality rate.
