Filipina telephone scam nurse arrested

NAJRAN – Authorities on Monday arrested a Filipina nurse working at King Khalid Hospital over a scam in which she made more than SR500,000 out of co-workers at the hospital by convincing them to invest in a mobile telephone share scheme. Doctors, fellow nurses and cleaning staff all invested in the swindle in which the nurse told them that she could obtain Sawa mobile telephone cards at a price cheaper than the market value and make considerable profits by selling them at higher prices. To help convince potential investors, she would sell prepaid cards and transfer balances from her telephone to her victims at low prices. – Okaz/SG
Infant survives fall from fourth floor

DAMMAM – A two-year-old baby survived a fall from the fourth floor of a building in the Al-Adama District here on Monday. Neighbors found Mayada Mu'tiz, of Arab nationality, on the ground in a pool of blood and took her to hospital where she was treated for a broken leg and bruises on her face and body. Mayada's mother said the infant had been playing on the fourth-floor balcony of their apartment when she suddenly disappeared from sight. – Okaz/SG
Smugglers set hashish afire

JIZAN – Smugglers set fire to their stash of hashish in their car on Sunday after realizing that they were been tailed by officials. The patrol had kept the car under surveillance but when the suspects became aware of their presence they set fire to the contents of their vehicle and fled. The fire was extinguished and police remain in pursuit of the perpetrators. – Okaz/SG
House of immorality raided

RIYADH - The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice officials on Monday raided a house in Al-Suweidi District here used by a gang for production of liquor and immoral acts. The gang of three men and two women of Pakistani and Indonesian nationality raised the suspicions of the Commission due to frequent visits of large numbers of people to the house. Authorities found 19 barrels of liquor at the residence, as well as equipment used for forging documents. – Okaz /SG
Nigerian finds work with fake ID
