Over 200 medics from abroad to work in Haj By Muhammad Dawood and Yasmin Al-Hamad JEDDAH – Ministry of Health has recruited 60 doctors specialized in intensive care, emergency and cardiology from Pakistan and Egypt for the Haj season, in addition to 147 nurses from Pakistan, Egypt and Malaysia. Abdul Majeed Khan, Chairman of the minitry's Manpower Committee, said administrative staff teams of 17 doctors and advisers had been assigned to oversee the work of the incoming staff at the holy sites, and their movements between hospitals and residences. Khan said that the annual rise in numbers of pilgrims caused an increased spread of communicable diseases and larger numbers of traffic injuries. A high proportion of pilgrims are also elderly people. “All these factors mean that specialist staff is required to deal with the variety of cases along with well-equipped health facilities run by qualified staff to serve the pilgrims at the holy sites,” Khan said. – Okaz/SG Caution against fake investment deals RIYADH – The Interior Ministry on Monday warned citizens and residents against deceptive invitations by some individuals inviting investments and financial transactions with false promises. The ministry noted that those who are involved in such deceptive acts use electronic telecommunication means at websites, electronic portals and e-mails. – SPA Riot quashed in Hafr Al-Batin prison By Abdullah Al-Sa'di and Fahd Al-Murakhi HAFR AL-BATIN – Security officials at Hafr Al-Batin prison quelled a prison riot Monday in which three officials and four inmates sustained minor injuries. Gen. Mohammad Bin Misfir Al-Nofai'ee, Chief of Prisons in the Eastern Province, said that trouble began when a mobile telephone and a SIM card were confiscated from three inmates during a regular inspection. When the three were taken outside the ward for questioning, inmates inside started to riot by setting a blanket on fire and blocking doors with beds.
