The Health Affairs Management in Jeddah is to launch a campaign against diabetes at Al-Serafi mega mall on Tuesday under the theme “ Diabetes should not end the life of any children.” Officials and doctors from Jeddah Health Affairs Management and Primary Health Care Department will participate in the event to talk the ways to avoid the disease. Doctors will also offer a thorough checkup on those willing to undergo the various tests,” said Abdul-Rahman Al-Sahafi, Public Relations Manager in Jeddah Health Affairs Management. Free dietary charts will also be distributed for those suffering from diabetes, he said. Besides, warning brochures and lectures will also be there to teach the people on ways to to deal with the disease, he said. “We will measure the blood sugar and weight and if a diabetic case is discovered, the person will be transferred to a clinic for treatment,” said Dr. Nuha Dashash, Assistant Health Affairs Director. The percentage of diabetic patients in the Kingdom is 24 to 27 percent. Unhealthy lifestyle is construed as the main factor behind the development of the disease. – SG __
