Human rights team checks prisons By Abdul Khaliq Al-Ghamdi AL-BAHA – Members from the Human Rights Committee visited Sunday prisons in the Al-Baha region to look into the conditions of inmates and hear their complaints. The delegation, led by Maj. Gen. Abdullah Al-Suhail, inspected prison wards and spoke to individual inmates before holding a meeting with Col. Faraj Habib Al-Ossaimi, Director of Prisons in the Al-Baha region. The committee is scheduled to pay further visits next week to other areas in the region. – Okaz/SG Makkah Police get new premises By Mohammad Al-Omairi MAKKAH – Makkah Police are to be stationed in new premises in the Kudai District of the city in efforts to improve their working conditions. Police spokesman Abdulmuh'sin Al-Maiman said the current premises had long been deemed unsatisfactory due to the building's crumbling condition, its lack of parking space for employees and the public. Moreover, it is located in a congested zone. About 350 employees currently work in the 30-year-old building which displays cracks in many of its walls. The new location will be operational after the Haj season. – Okaz/SG International pediatric conference today By Farah Mustafa Wadi JEDDAH – The first international conference on medicines for new-born babies will be held here Monday. Speakers from the Kingdom and abroad will participate in the three-day conference. It would discuss over 50 papers on scientific research. – SG Workers protest delayed wages By Ali Ghorman NAMAS – Cleaning staff at Namas General Hospital went on strike in protest at management's failure to pay their wages for several months. This is the second protest they have staged in the space of a month. Staff gathered in front of management offices to voice their concerns before later returning to work after a settlement was apparently reached.
