The alumni of Aligarh Muslim University, Jeddah Chapter, celebrated the birthday of Sir Syed, the founder of their alma mater here at the weekend. The university has played a significant role in Indian academic institutions and is also recognized by the United Nations. Aligarians across the globe celebrate Sir Syed Day every year. Prof. Dr. Hashim Bakr Hariri, Vice President of the Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah was the chief guest and Shakeel Ahmed, Consul E&C Indian Consulate, was the guest of honor. Prof. Dr. Hariri said a high level delegation of education department will be going to India soon and visit Aligarh and Osmania universities for mutual cooperation in higher education. Presiding over the function, Hasan Ghias, deputy president of Bin Zagr Company and a senior alumnus of the university, shared his experiences at AMU and said it was time for all of us to channelize our resources to do more for the university's cause. Rashid Qureshi proposed the vote of thanks after the university anthem “Tarana” warmed the hearts of the audience as they went down the memory lane to the glorious days of their stay at the university. __
