Arabic name: Ibn Zuhr, Abu Marwan ‘Abd Al-Malik Ibn Abi Al-'Ala' Ibn Zuhr Famous physician of Andalus and one of the greatest medical clinicians of the western caliphate. Born in Seville in 1091 CE, he studied in C?rdoba. After a brief stay in Baghdad and Cairo, he returned to the Islamic West and worked for Almoravides as a physician. Later, Ibn Zuhr worked for ‘Abd Al-Mu'min – the first Muwahid ruler – both as physician and a minister. He died in 1161 CE. Ibn Zuhr confined his work only to medicine, field in which he composed several monumental books. Several of his books were translated into Latin and Hebrew and were in great demand in Europe until the 18th century. Only three of his great books have survived: The book on Therapeutics and Diet, the book on reformation of souls and bodies, and the book on Foodstuffs.
