Deric, Eapen claim top honors

Deric Gonsalves and Eapen K. Mathew clinched the top honors in the 12th Federation Cup Open Doubles Badminton Tournament, organized by Badminton Federation - Saudi Arabia (BFSA) in collaboration with Dhahran Badminton Association at Dhahran Jr. School Gyms last week.
In a spectacular Premier Flight final, the Riyadh duo Deric and Eapen won against George PuthenMadhom and Omer Nahaz to clcaim the Federation Cup top level Trophy.
Over 300 players of different nationalities in the Kingdom took part in this mega event in 8 levels. The events conducted were men's doubles, ladies doubles and combo doubles.
The standard of the game was good with the participation of new players from Jeddah and Riyadh.
Deric is a 12th standard school boy from IIS, Riyadh. He has already won many top level tournaments in the Kingdom. Earlier in the semifinals, George and Nahaz had a tough 3-set match against the Malaysian pair of Budiamel Shah and Abdul Fatah. Deric and Eapen beat Hashim and Vinu in the other semifinal.
BFSA President George PuthenMadhom congratulated all the winners and runners-up and thanked the sponsors who make tournaments like this a big success. Shaikh Ashrafulla, DBA president and his committee has been very much instrumental in organizing this tournament in Dhahran.
The major sponsors of the tournament were SAB Middle East, Axis Insurance and Loss adjusters, KAMPCO Pumps and De-Watering Co, DELMON Group of Companies, Western Union, NASICO and Arabian Technical Trading Est. The trophies were given away by Eldhose Mathai, Henry Donsalves, Anzar and Alaa Uddin Mohammed Dawood.
Mementos were presented to various sponsors for their patronage to the tournament.
