New school year to begin Aug. 30

RIYADH — The Ministry of Education has refuted reports that claimed it had decided to postpone the beginning of the new school year to Dhul Hijja 21 (Oct. 15). School will start on Aug. 30, said ministry spokesman Mubarak Al-Osaimi on his Twitter account. Rumors of a delayed start to the school year spread on all social media websites, causing confusion to many families, especially those who were planning to travel abroad for vacation. Al-Osaimi called on the general public to verify news they read on social media. – SG
